Money is NOT Evil

There – I said it. Money is not “the root of all evil” – that’s a misquote, by the way. The saying actual goes  “For the love of money is the root of all evil”. It also talks about how people go off course chasing after money, and by doing so make themselves miserable.

Which is, of course, quite often true… it’s also how a lot of us get stuck in financial hardship. Especially those of us who are in business for ourselves. Think about it: how can you be successful at business if you go through life telling yourself that money is… bad, or something like that? Because you know what sucks worse than the misery of chasing after money? The stress and anxiety of not having any money, because you’ve been avoiding it like a disease.

“For the love of money is the root of all evil” – 1 Timothy 6:10 King James Version.

Here’s the punchline: money is not only the point and purpose of doing business in the first place – it’s a fundamentally important tool, whether we like it or not. We can dream of a day when all people on earth are one big happy family, everything that everyone needs is somehow magically produced or manufactured, shipped and delivered without the need to pay for it or pay anyone to do all the things required to make all this happen.

But until such a day, we all have to wake up to reality and get on about our business. Whether it’s actual a business of our own, or we punch a timeclock and go to work for somebody else’s business.

Money is a tool – use it wisely, use it well

So, if money is a tool – and my take is, that’s ALL money is – then we may as well use it to the greatest advantage for ourselves and those around us, yes? We don’t have to love it, stop being decent human beings or step on any necks to get it. But let’s not develop a sense fear about it, keeping ourselves broke and miserable due mostly to our mindset and not our actual financial status or economic circumstances.

The world is currently in the midst of recovery from the global coronavirus pandemic. Social isolation, businesses were shuttered, everything is being reset or reinvented. So why am I here blabbing about how “money is not evil”?

Because now is the time to reconsider everything you’ve ever thought about work, cash, business, finance and economics, and get your money game tight. Now – WHILE things are shutdown. In fact, there’s never been a better time to rethink and regroup. In crisis, there is opportunity. There’s actually ALWAYS opportunity, but it’s easy to ignore it during “regular times”, when we’re caught up in the hamster wheel of the daily grind of keeping a roof over our heads, getting home alive one more day and somehow blowing off enough steam to find the strength to get up and do it all again the next day.

So while I have your attention (because we’re all each other’s captive audience), I’m firing up this “Blogging on FB” thing with purpose, and I’ll be coming at you every day until sometime in July, having an ongoing conversation about Money, Finance… and POWER. Stay Tuned In.
